One of the best parts of XPR Network is how easy and free it is to send cryptocurrency. Traditional crypto transactions require long hexadecimal addresses and charge fees (“gas”) each time you send coins. In contrast, XPR Network has no transfer fees and uses simple @name addresses for users. This makes sending money as straightforward as sending a message, and perfect for beginners.
How to Send XPR (or other tokens) using WebAuth Wallet:
- Open the Wallet & Select Asset: In your WebAuth app, go to the home dashboard and tap on the asset you want to send (e.g., XPR). This will open the send interface.
- Tap “Send”: Tap the Send button.
- Enter the Recipient: Type the recipient’s XPR @name in the address field (you don’t need to type the “@”, the app will prefix it automatically). For example, to pay Alice, enter alice if her account is
@alice. No more copying long addresses!
- Enter Amount: Input the amount of XPR (or token) you want to send and press “Continue”. Enter Amount: Input the amount of XPR (or token) you want to send and press “Continue”. You can even send very small amounts (e.g. 1 XPR or $0.01 worth) since there are no fees on XPR transfers.
- Add a Memo (Optional): You have the option to include a memo or note (e.g., “Lunch payment” or “Gift”) which the recipient can see. This is optional and purely for convenience or record-keeping.
- Review and Send: Double-check the recipient’s @name and amount on the confirmation screen. When ready, tap Send and authorize the transaction (use your fingerprint/Face ID or PIN as prompted). The XPR Network will then process the transfer instantly.
⚠️ Beginner Warning: Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible. Always double-check the recipient’s @name and the amount before hitting send. If you mistakenly send to the wrong @name, you cannot undo the transfer. The human-readable names help avoid mistakes, but still be certain you’ve got the right person!
Once you tap send, the recipient will receive the funds within a second or two, thanks to XPR’s high speed. You’ll notice no fee was deducted from your balance for the transfer – sending XPR is completely free on-chain. This feeless, instant transfer opens up use cases like micro-payments and tipping that aren’t practical on many other blockchains.
How to Receive XPR (or other tokens):
Receiving is even easier. Your friend just needs your @name to pay you. If someone wants to send you XPR:
- Simply share your @name (for example, tell them “Send it to @alice”). They can enter that in their wallet to send. You don’t need to provide long addresses for XPR transfers.
For convenience, the WebAuth wallet also lets you show a QR code or share a link: tap on Receive, select the token, and you’ll see your account information. For XPR Network tokens, it will just show your @name since no additional address is needed. You can show the QR or copy the @name from the app to send to the payer. Once they send the funds, it will instantly reflect in your balance.
Tip: If you are receiving XPR from an exchange, the exchange might ask for a “memo” or additional ID. In such cases, the @name of your account is typically the “address”, and a memo may not be required for Proton/XPR transfers to personal wallets. However, always follow the exchange’s deposit instructions. Conversely, when sending to an exchange, you might need to include a memo. WebAuth wallet has a field for memos if needed. This mainly applies when moving funds between personal accounts and exchanges.
Benefits of XPR Network Transfers:
- Free Transactions: XPR Network doesn’t charge any gas or transaction fees for on-chain transfers. You can send money to friends or family without losing any value in fees. This makes it practical to send even tiny amounts, or to frequently transact, which is a game-changer in everyday crypto use.
- Human-Readable Addresses: Using
@username addresses minimizes mistakes and makes crypto transfers beginner-friendly. You’re less likely to send to the wrong person compared to using long hexadecimal addresses. It feels more like a payment username than a cryptic wallet code, improving confidence for new users.
- Instant Settlements: Payments on XPR Network are extremely fast (typically 1 second to finalize). There’s no waiting around – the recipient can use the funds immediately. This near-instant finality is ideal for point-of-sale transactions, tipping, or any situation where you want confirmation right away.
- Multi-Asset Support: While XPR is the native token, the network supports many wrapped assets (like XBTC, XETH for Bitcoin and Ethereum on XPR Network). This means you could send various cryptocurrencies over XPR Network to other users fee-free as well, once they are converted to XPR-based tokens. (For example, sending a wrapped BTC to someone’s @name works just like sending XPR, with no BTC network fees). This versatility all under the same easy system expands what you can do with one wallet and one account.
