Some of your votes may be pointing at Block Producers that no longer exist
On XPR Network you cast your Block Producer votes once and they stay where you put them. If a BP later shuts down its node and deregisters, your vote does not follow it out. It stays attached to an account that has stopped producing anything, and nothing in your wallet tells you this has happened. XPR Network has said publicly that a meaningful share of stakers are in this position, and most of them have no idea.
That is why the Block Producer section is now live at /bp. It does two things.
The first is a vote checker. Type in any XPR account and it shows you which Block Producers that account voted for, with any inactive ones flagged. You do not need to log in, and you do not need to check only your own account. It takes about five seconds and is worth doing even if you are fairly sure your votes are fine.
The second is a monthly community vote for BP of the Month, which opens today. Knowing your vote is stale is only half of the problem. The other half is not knowing who is actually doing anything.
How the vote works
This is a community process. XPR Hub runs the mechanics and publishes the results, and that is the whole of its involvement. We do not rank Block Producers, we do not score them, and we do not tell anyone who to vote for.
Phase 1 - Nominations (1–25 August)
Sign in with WebAuth, choose a Block Producer, and write a reason of between 20 and 280 characters. The reason is required, and it is the part that matters. "Good BP" tells nobody anything. "Answers questions in Telegram within an hour and has kept a public API running for two years" tells everybody something. You can nominate more than one BP, but only once per BP per cycle. Every registered Block Producer is eligible.
Phase 2 — Voting (26–31 August)
The four most-nominated Block Producers go on the ballot. One account, one vote, single choice.
Phase 3 — Results (1 September)
Vote counts are published in full the moment voting closes, and the winner gets a permanent page in the archive.
A note on transparency, since I am also a Block Producer
XPR Hub is run by artwebin, which is a BP account. Hosting a vote about Block Producers only works if nobody has to take my word for anything, so: every nomination reason is public with the nominating account attached, every vote count is published in full when the poll closes, and every cycle stays in the archive permanently. artwebin can be nominated and voted for like any other BP, with no advantage and no exclusion either. Moderation covers spam and abuse and nothing beyond that. No nomination reason will be hidden for being unflattering about anyone, including me.
AskHub needs you more than it needs us
AskHub got a large share of the v1.0 rebuild: better structure, cleaner browsing, faster pages. Six months later the software is fine and the participation is not there yet.
A Q&A section is not really something you can build. Every question that sits unanswered makes the next person slightly less likely to ask one, and plenty of what is open right now could be answered in two minutes by people reading this. The same questions get answered constantly in Telegram, out loud, where they help one person and then disappear.
So the request runs the other way this time. Rather than bringing your questions to AskHub, go and read the open ones and answer something you already know. An answer written once, on a page that turns up in search, keeps helping people long after you have forgotten writing it.
If you have been around this ecosystem for a couple of years you are carrying knowledge that new users are currently piecing together from scratch. Closing that gap is what AskHub is for, and no amount of rebuilding does it for us.
Writers wanted
XPR Hub News should cover what the community is doing: what BPs are shipping, what builders are working on, the things that happen in Telegram and never make it into an official announcement. One person cannot see all of that, which brings me to the request.
I am looking for volunteers to write here.
You do not need journalism experience. You need to be around the ecosystem and able to write clearly in English. Things that would work well:
- a monthly roundup of one corner of the ecosystem
- an interview with a builder, a BP, or someone who has been here a long time
- coverage of a launch or a major update
- a recap of a community call or AMA
- an explainer for something people keep asking about
Most people will not want to write an article, which is fine. Tips are just as useful. If you see something worth covering, a launch, a milestone, a project nobody is talking about, send it over. A link and one line of context is enough.
